  • Austin, Texas, Approves Contract Amendment for Water Treatment Plant

City council authorized additional $27.6 million, making contract with Carollo Engineers about $42 million
    March 28, 2008

The Austin, Texas, City Council recently approved a contract amendment with Austin-based Carollo Engineers, PC, for engineering design and construction services for the new water treatment plant No. 4 site, the Austin Business Journal reported.

The council authorized spending $27.6 million in addition to the original contract amount of $27.6 million, making the total amount of the contract with Carollo Engineers PC about $42 million.

The total cost of the plant is approximately $355 million to $450 million, according to city officials.

Last year, the city council approved the acquisition of a 95-acre site in northwest Austin for plant No. 4, which will have the capacity to treat as many as 300 million gal per day.

The city council decided last August not to build the plant at the headwaters of Bull Creek in northwest Austin near Lake Travis due to environmental concerns.
