Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-Texas) will deliver the keynote address during the 23rd Annual WateReuse Symposium to be held Sept. 7 to 10 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. Granger, who represents the Forth Worth area in the Congress, is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and is well informed on water issues.
Granger will be joined in the opening session by Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, WateReuse Association President Richard Atwater, Water Environment Federation (WEF) President-Elect Rebecca West and American Water Works Association (AWWA) Vice-President Jerald W. Stevens. Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst has been invited to deliver a second keynote address.

The 23rd Annual WateReuse Symposium will feature 125 technical sessions covering urban reuse, desalination, economics, groundwater recharge, planning, treatment technologies, water quality issues and much more. Presented by the WateReuse Association and cosponsored by AWWA and WEF, the Annual WateReuse Symposium is the preeminent conference devoted to water reuse and desalination.
Some of the highlights of the Symposium include an awards luncheon, national legislative and water policy outlook session, a regulatory form, a user issues forum focused on reclaimed water at golf courses and an exciting interactive closing plenary session entitled "Pharmaceuticals in Water-Should We Be Concerned?"
Symposium attendees will also have the opportunity to tour three local facilities to see a variety of innovative approaches to water reuse.
The North Texas Municipal Water District-East Fork Raw Water Supply facility tour will highlight a project that diverts return flows from the East Fork Trinity River through an 1800-acre constructed wetland and then into Lavon Lake to augment raw water supplies.
The Dallas County Utility Reclamation and Trinity River Authority-Urban Reuse facility tour will take participants to the Las Colinas 12,000-acre residential-commercial development, which uses up to 8,000 acre-ft per year of recycled water for irrigation and to maintain water level in lakes and canals.
The Texas Instruments semiconductor manufacturing facility tour will feature a presentation of Texas Instruments' 1.1-million-sq-ft LEED-certified facility, which has several water saving design elements such as a deionized water plant with features such as reverse osmosis brine used in the cooling towers, primary mixed bed water used for lower grade process water, secondary ultrafiltration for additional water recovery, tool final rinse water recovery, industrial wastewater used for exhaust scrubbers and make-up air condensate collection.
Golfers will have the opportunity to begin the Symposium with a tournament at Cedar Crest Golf Course, Dallas' first reclaimed water customer. The 6,505-yd, par 71 course traverses across a number of natural streams, old hardwood trees, and up and down some of the most dramatic elevation changes in the city of Dallas. The tournament will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7.
