John A. Chernak, former president of Tomlinson Industries, passed away on Jan. 22, 2008. Chernak joined Tomlinson Industries in 1957, became president of Tomlinson in 1966 and continued in that capacity until 1994. In 1995 Chernak became chairman and was a senior special advisor from 1996 until his retirement in December 2003.
Chernak passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nev., with his wife, Arlene, by his side. In addition to his wife, Chernak also leaves behind four daughters and six grandchildren.
Since 1967, Chernak had been active in the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) as a board member from 1987-1996, treasurer from 1990 to 1991, vice president in 1992 and president in 1993. Chernak was a Certified Foodservice Professional and during his career he received a variety of awards for various activities related to the commercial foodservice equipment field. He received the William W. Carpenter Award in 2001.
Upon his retirement and move to Nevada, Chernak said, “The time has come! I began my career at Tomlinson No-Drip Faucet Co. on Sept. 1, 1957. It is now time to ruminate about the past and enjoy a different type of future.”
