NSF Intl. recently announced the promotion of Petie Davis to business unit manager of NSF’s sustainability programs.
In her new position, Ms. Davis will oversee the programs that support a company’s sustainability initiatives from product claims to supplier audits. This involves developing coherent business strategies for all of NSF’s businesses related to sustainability. NSF’s sustainability programs include sustainable forestry, ISO 14001 registration, organic certification, green chemistry and WaterSense, a program that encourages water conservation by identifying and promoting water-efficient products.
Two new programs have also been developed under NSF’s umbrella of sustainability services—the Sustainable Supplier Program and the Sustainable Product Certification Program.
The Sustainable Supplier Program assists companies in the development and launch of supplier oversight programs and supply chain sustainability audits. The Sustainable Product Certification Program certifies products to U.S. national sustainability standards and verifies a company’s “green” product claim through audits, testing, reviews and protocol development.
According to Ms. Davis, “NSF has overseen the development of standards for sustainable carpets, business furniture, resilient flooring, textiles and other products for the building and construction industry, which makes NSF an ideal fit to offer sustainable product certification.”
Ms. Davis is an environmental professional with over 20 years of experience in the environmental field serving in a variety of positions including compliance and management systems auditor, consultant, manager, field scientist and trainer. She has worked at NSF Intl. for more than 10 years. She most recently served as business unit manager of Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Services, where she was responsible for launching several new initiatives, including Greenhouse Gas Verification services. Through her work with EH&S, not only did Ms. Davis lead NSF’s sustainability efforts in 2004, she also developed the first working concept for framing existing sustainability program.
