The WQA awarded three industry advocates with Leadership Awards on Wednesday, March 26, at the 2008 WQA Aquatech show in Las Vegas. The awards were handed out during the opening general session of the show.
Denise A. Nasternak, Stenner Pump Co., Jacksonville, Fla., was given the Award of Merit for exceptional service to the water quality improvement industry.
D.J. Shannahan Jr., CWS-VI, CI, CCO, Sharp Water, Salisbury, Md., was given the Regents Award for significant contributions at the state or local level on issues affecting the industry such as ethics, legislation and educational efforts.
Glenn Gruett, Water-Right, Inc./Mineral Right, Inc., Appleton, Wis., was given the Ray Cross Award. This award is for current and former WQA members whose pioneer spirit and unwavering commitment has made a notable difference in the water treatment industry; named after Ray E. Cross, Water Specialist Emeritus.
J. Christopher Layton, Santa Ana, Calif., received the Lifetime Member Award for being active within the industry and having performed exemplary service to the association.
Edward Jones, III, CWS-IV, Gordon Brothers Water, Salem, Ohio, received the Hall of Fame Award—the highest honor bestowed on a WQA member. Jones received this award for a lifetime dedication and service to the water quality improvement industry and extensive participation in the WQA.
