In my last article, I described the experience of my small business’ website getting hacked, and described the basics of how websites work — and how hackers can invade them. In this article, I will provide practical tips on how to protect your company’s site from attack.
My site was hacked for more than six weeks before I discovered the problem, and it took another three weeks and thousands of dollars to fix it. This does not include the lost revenue and reputation that resulted from the attack.
Taking steps now to protect your website can prevent costly problems later
Recently, I was sitting with a dealer, discussing his year-to-date numbers. He was shaking his head, saying, “I don’t get it. My sales are up by $20,000 a month, but when I look in the checkbook, it doesn’t show it. I seem to be working twice as hard, but I’m not making any more money.”
Using benchmarking to redefine business goals and projects
Most of the readers of this magazine are in a segment of the water treatment industry concerned with point-of-entry and point-of-use drinking water treatment. There are several related organizations that water treatment professionals also may be members of, including those dealing with industrial boiler water, cooling water, groundwater, bottled water and municipal drinking water.
Industry associations provide a multitude of opportunities for businesses
Three years ago when I decided to make my company, Moti-Vitality, a full-time venture, one of the things I knew for sure was that I needed a good website. Keeping your website safe from online risks

Domestically, new regulations loom — some positive, some negative — as California continues to set the legislative tone for the nation. Globally, opportunties await for companies ready to take the international plunge, but the challenges of certification remain.
