Tiny Utrik Atoll is part of the Marshall Islands, a scattered group of atolls in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. On Utrik and neighboring islands, rain catchment traditionally supplied all of the drinking water, while well water was used for washing. Over the past decade, however, rainfall has become unreliable, and during the dry seasons Utrik islanders were forced to drink well water with unsafe salinity levels.

Dow Filmtec Eco RO Elements recognized for energy and cost savings in manufacturing
Dow was presented with the Bronze Edison Award for Filmtec Eco elements in the energy/sustainability and commercial resource management category. The judging committee recognized Filmtec Eco technology for its ability to significantly reduce the energy required to remove impurities from water.
The Filmtec BW60-1812-75 is a new residential membrane element that produces 75 gpd and nominal 99% salt rejection at 50 psi. It incorporates efficient membrane element design, allowing consumers to enjoy high performance and water quality.
Agreement strengthens cooperation in water purification
Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS), a business unit of the Dow Chemical Co., celebrated the first anniversary of its water purification business cooperation with Haier. Meanwhile, a new collaboration agreement between the two parties also was agreed upon — Haier will purchase original U.S.-made residential Filmtec reverse osmosis (RO) components for its high-end residential water purification products.
Select products will now carry WQA Sustainability Certification
3M Purification will showcase a suite of new resources for its 3M authorized water dealers at WQA Aquatech USA, March 18 to 21 in Orlando, Fla. In addition to debuting a new booth and drinking water filtration system, it will introduce the water community to the 3M Dealer Advisory Council, and also will preview exciting new online tools for dealers.
Axeon Water Technologies has enhanced the R1-Series reverse osmosis (RO) system offering with three new models. These systems are engineered and manufactured for commercial and light industrial applications up to 20,000 gal per day. The high-efficiency systems use Axeon ultra-low-energy membrane elements that deliver high-quality water with improved energy efficiency.
Innovated and made in Sweden, Spirit harnesses the patented SuperiorOsmosis technology for efficiency, compactness and long product life. Removing practically all contaminants from tap water, the system also cuts water wastage linked to traditional RO systems.
These RO drinking water systems have cartridges and membranes that are easily replaced without the need to shut off the system. They are available in wall-mounted or floor models, and all systems come with storage tank, John Guest feedwater and tank shutoff valves, faucet, tubing and instructions. The systems are backed by a two-year warranty.
The ClearFlo RO system has a hinged frame design. It displays pressure gauges and flowmeters, along with readily accessible reject/recycle valves. The system has low-pressure safety shutoff; programmable automatic membrane flush; automatic restart; high-flow, low-energy membranes; corrosion-resistant powder-coated frames; and stainless steel membrane housings.
