Water Conditioning System

Company Reference:

The ScaleNet anti-scale water conditioning system eliminates hard water scale with virtually no homeowner maintenance, no salt additives and no electricity. The system prevents destructive scale build-up on pipe, valves and other plumbing system components using template-assisted crystallization technology, which attracts hardness minerals and converts them into harmless particles that float freely through the system.

Alternative Action

In my first article, “Traditional Treatment Methods” (June 2014), I touched on traditional methods of residential water treatment and conditioning such as water softeners, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet systems.

Secondary Disinfection for Swimming

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, E. coli bacteria, normally found in the human gut and feces, are present in alarming quantities in a majority of pools. The bacteria find their way into pools when people do not take showers before swimming or have “accidents” in the water. It is more likely to find fecal contamination in municipal pools. HydroFlow water conditioners are one method of secondary disinfection that can reduce bacterial contamination and chemical consumption in pools.

Conditioning for Coffee

About 55% of adults in the U.S. drink coffee daily, according to the National Coffee Assn. Coffee shops have helped consumers develop an appreciation for specialty coffee. Higher-grade coffee beans, improved roasting methods and better brewing equipment have improved product quality and increased customer expectations. Because coffee is about 99% water, water quality is critical to the brewing process.

Efficiency Revolution

Stated simply, hard water is water that is hard to lather, and soft water is not. A more technically accurate definition of soft water describes the physical removal, to less than 1 grain per gal (gpg) in most cases, of calcium and magnesium salts. If you cheat and go to the end of this article, however, future generations’ definition of soft water might read “less than 4 gpg, as defined by the U.S. Geological Survey.”
