U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy announced that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) will provide almost $12 million to federal and state agencies to protect public health by targeting harmful algal blooms (HABs) in western Lake Erie. The funding builds upon GLRI’s ongoing efforts to reduce algal blooms and will be made available to Ohio, Michigan and Indiana state agencies and to the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

High level event focuses on action plan to scale-up water provision efforts across the country
On Friday, July 11, 2014, Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment made a commitment to work towards the provision of safe and adequate drinking water. The high level Event, consisting of Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment, local organizations, international NGOs and donors, focused on the creation of an action plan to scale-up efforts to provide safe and clean drinking water across the country.
The AMB-9S is a 9- by 2-in.-diameter filter candle with greater than 99% reduction capacity for chloramines and lead.
