Water quality and water safety company Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) recently announced that it has become one of the first organizations approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to test for 28 contaminants in EPA’s third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 3).

New Jersey American Water has rescinded its precautionary boil water advisory for its customers in sections of Bedminster, Chester Township, Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, Pottersville and Tewksbury. Customers no longer have to boil their water. Testing has concluded that the water meets or exceeds state and federal guidelines.

Water provider secures top honor at American Water Works Assn.’s Annual Conference and Exposition
The American Water Works Assn. (AWWA) announced that the Fremont Department of Utilities of Fremont, Neb., has won the annual “Best of the Best” Water Taste Test. The event, composed of regional winners from water-tasting competitions across North America, was held at AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE12) in Dallas on June 12.
The city of Fremon, receives its water from nine groundwater wells in the High Plains Alluvial Aquifer, with an average well depth of 90 ft. The utility pumps 5 million gal per day through 160 miles of water main to serve 28,000 people.
The goal is smarter, more sustainable water use by industry
Ecolab Inc. has expanded its commitment to World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) in establishing a global water standard. The AWS International Water Stewardship Standard aims to support water users globally in taking appropriate actions to evaluate and improve their impacts on watersheds.
Ecolab's two-year pledge includes annual financial support and in-kind technical support and guidance by company experts to field test the draft AWS standard.
