A $500 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will help finance a program to provide 516,000 people in northern Argentina access to improved wastewater treatment services.
The program aims to improve the coverage and efficiency of drinking water and sanitation services in areas of Argentina’s Norte Grande region, where such services are inadequate or nonexistent. Projects will also improve the operational and financial management of service providers and strengthen provincial entities operating in the sector.

Funds will help develop water treatment methods to keep contaminants out of drinking water
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced almost $1.5 million in funding to three universities to develop sustainable drinking water treatment methods. The research grants are funded through EPA’s Science to Achieve Results program. These grants, which supplement last year’s grants to eight other universities, are intended to provide innovative treatment methods to protect people’s health by keeping harmful contaminants out of drinking water.
Meil promoted to vice president of finance and administration
Edward Meil has been promoted from corporate controller to vice president of finance and administration of Aquion Inc. His position with the company has been expanded to include the corporate human resources function and he will continue to report to Cal Stuart, president and CEO of Aquion.
Three students won for their research on how clay can be used to remove and recover pollutants from wastewater
H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden presented the 2012 Stockholm Junior Water Prize at an award ceremony at the World Water Week in Stockholm. The winners were students Luigi Marshall Cham, Jun Yong Nicholas Lim and Tian Ting Carrie-Anne Ng from Singapore.
