Report includes water quality test results and educational materials
Connecticut Water recently produced its 2010 Water Quality Report. The report provides customers with extensive information about their water supply, water quality test results, and source protection and conservation measures. Connecticut Water works closely with the Connecticut Department of Public Health to ensure that the water it provides to customers meets or is better than state and federal standards for drinking water.
“Connecticut Water employees are committed to delivering customers with clean, high-quality drinking water. We know water is one of life’s essentials and touches everything we care about,” said Kevin T. Walsh, Connecticut Water’s director, technical and environmental services. “We encourage our customers to read the report so they can see the extensive water quality testing and monitoring that is performed throughout the year so customers can have confidence in the quality of the water delivered in our systems.”
The company’s Water Quality Report summarizes the results of 170,000 water quality tests conducted in 2010. More than 400 tests are performed each day for more than 120 potential contaminants and parameters that could affect the quality of tap water. Connecticut Water collects water samples before the water is treated, during the treatment process and in the distribution system before it reaches a customer’s home. Water quality samples are tested at laboratories certified by the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and test results are submitted to DPH’s Drinking Water Division.
Connecticut Water has received the Directors Award from the Partnership for Safe Water, a national volunteer initiative developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Connecticut Water has maintained the Directors Award for 10 years, an honor achieved by only 42 water utilities across the country. The company’s participation in the program includes a rigorous review of treatment practices developed by national experts and a four-step self-assessment and peer-review process.
In addition to drinking water quality information, the Water Quality Report includes other educational material about lead, copper, fluoride, nitrates and chlorine.
