Japanese Water Leader to Address Tsunami Relief at ACE11
Yoshihiko Misono will give keynote address at opening session
In a keynote address opening the American Water Works Assn.’s (AWWA) Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE11) in Washington, D.C., in June, the leader of Japan’s largest water association will describe his organization’s efforts to provide relief and restore safe water following the recent earthquake and tsunami.
Yoshihiko Misono, executive director of the Japan Water Works Assn. (JWWA), will speak during the ACE11 Opening General Session, which begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 13.
Since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, JWWA has marshaled utilities from throughout the country to deliver treated drinking water and restore water service to more than two million impacted households. Attendees of AWWA’s ACE11 will have the unique opportunity to hear Misono’s firsthand description of the short- and long-term responses in the impacted prefectures.
“AWWA is honored that Mr. Misono has agreed to address the attendees of ACE11,” said AWWA Executive Director David LaFrance. “The global water community can learn a great deal from JWWA’s heroic response to the recent events in Japan.”
