Update affects industrial/commercial pumps including positive displacement and kinetic types
The Hydraulic Institute (HI), under the approval of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is seeking qualified individuals in North America to participate in the review process for the draft of an updated standard, “American National Standard for Pumps—General Guidelines for Types, Definitions, Application, Sound Measurement, and Decontamination (ANSI/HI 9.1-9.5-2012).”
ANSI/HI 9.1-9.5-2012 was substantially revised and updated, and replaces the prior version that was last reviewed in 2000. This standard applies to industrial/commercial pumps including positive displacement and kinetic types. Positive displacement pumps add energy to liquids by rapping liquid in a confined space and forcibly moving it out of the pump and into the discharge pipe. This pumping action is accomplished by either the reciprocating action of plungers, pistons, bellows or diaphragms; rotary action of mechanical devices such as gears, screws or vanes; or by blow case arrangements using pressurized air to displace liquid. Kinetic pumps add energy by high-speed rotating wheels or impellers, using either centrifugal effects; regenerative turbine pumping action; or by a rotating case with a stationary arm fitted with a pitot tube.
Individuals and organizations located in North America directly and materially affected by this standard are asked to contact HI. These parties include pump users and specifiers, producers, standards developers, government agencies and general interest groups.
