American Water Works Assn. partners with other organizations for event
The American Water Works Assn. (AWWA) announced this week that registration is now open for the 2012 Sustainable Water Management Conference taking place March 18 to 21 in Portland, Ore.
Partnering for the event are leading water organizations including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, Water Environment Federation and the WateReuse Assn. The technical program was developed by the American Water Resources Assn., the Portland State University Institute for Sustainable Solutions and the Water Research Foundation.
The four-day event, which features two workshops and more than 25 technical sessions, will offer attendees information on the benefits of sustainability planning and how it leads to cohesive communities and utility system optimization.
The keynote speaker will be Brian Fagan, author of Elixir. The book examines the history of water before the Industrial Revolution; specifically how ancient societies viewed water. He will speak about the importance of careful management of water supplies to enable a sustainable future for today’s societies.
