A recent scam in the Cleveland area is making headlines. Scam artists are posing as water utility employees in order to steal from residentsmainly the elderly.
Last week three men entered an Akron man's house posing as employees for Water Works, and ended up stealing guns, money and jewelry, reported NewsNet5.
Police are warning all residents to be skeptical of visitors and make them prove that they have a reason to be there. . "Treat them well, but insist they have identification," said Lt. Ken Ball of the Akron Police Department. "In most instances I think it would be reasonable to ask them to wait outside until you're able to contact the water department."
Police also said that the scam artists hit a home in Ellet Thursday. The men ran off when the woman called police, however.
