Abcite Receives NSF/ANSI 61 Certification

The thermoplastic powder coating is certified for use in drinking water system components

Axalta Coating Systems Abcite NSF/ANSI 61 drinking water

Axalta Coating Systems, a supplier of liquid and powder coatings, received certification in accordance with NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects for its Abcite thermoplastic powder coatings, which are used in a variety of industrial applications, including pipe and fittings for drinking water systems.

"NSF/ANSI 61 is a widely recognized industry standard for protecting consumers and public health,” said Fréderic de Borman Chautems, Axalta’s Abcite product specialist based in Switzerland. "Our Abcite coatings offer outstanding corrosion and [ultraviolet] protection and are extremely tough, but we wanted our customers to be aware of how safe they can be when in contact with drinking water. Our Abcite certification to NSF/ANSI 61, achieved only after a thorough audit and stringent testing process, helps demonstrate that Abcite is truly reliable."

To achieve certification, Axalta had to submit information on product formulation, toxicology and use; open its plant for audit; provide NSF Intl. with a sample for laboratory product testing; and undergo a full toxicology evaluation. This process is designed to ensure that no potentially harmful chemicals leach into drinking water. All certified Abcite products will be identified by an NSF/ANSI 61 certification mark.
