EWQA Fall Conference Provides Networking Opportunities
The Eastern Water Quality Assn. (EWQA) hosted their annual Fall Conference at the Kalahari Resort in Pocono Manor, Pa. Members were encouraged to bring their families to enjoy the largest water park in the country. The event featured educational sessions, networking opportunities, a golf outing and even a blowing cash machine. EWQA raised more than $6,000 for their association through the annual auction.
Water Well Trust Receives USDA Grant
The Water Well Trust received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Household Water Well Systems program for a project to increase potable water availability to rural households in Arkansas. The USDA grant and matching funds from the Water Systems Council will be used to fund Water Well Trust projects in 12 Arkansas counties, including Benton, Boone, Carroll, Crawford, Jefferson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Searcy, Sebastian, Union, and Washington.
The grant funding will provide long-term, low-interest loans to applicants seeking new or improved water wells in the targeted Arkansas counties. The Water Well Trust limits funding to a maximum of $11,000 per household. Loans have an interest rate of 1% with terms of up to 20 years.
WEFTEC 2018 Sets Record
With 20,740 registrants, the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) 91st annual technical exhibition and conference drew the most registrants ever for New Orleans. WEFTEC 2018 also featured 1,019 exhibitors using 299,850 net square feet of space to showcase the latest developments, technologies and services for the water sector.
"We are extremely proud to continue delivering the kind of experience that attracts and engages thousands of water professionals each year," said WEF Executive Director Eileen O'Neill. "It was truly gratifying to see and feel the high energy and excitement surrounding WEFTEC 2018."
IAPMO Seeks Technical Committee Members
The International Assn. of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) is seeking volunteers to participate on two technical committees working toward the development of the 2021 editions of the Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub Code (USPSHTC) and Uniform Solar, Hydronics & Geothermal Code (USHGC). The deadline to submit an application is Feb. 1, 2019.
The USPSHTC and USHGC technical committees each seek members in the following categories: manufacturer, user, installer/maintainer, labor, research/standards/testing laboratory, enforcing authority, consumer, and special expert. These committees are assembled in accordance with the Regulations Governing Consensus Development of the USPSHTC and USHGC and the Guide for the Conduct of Participants in the IAPMO codes and standards development process.

IAPMO Solicits Proposals
The International Assn. of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), developer of the Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code (USHGC) and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa, and Hot Tub Code (USPSHTC), is calling for formal code proposals toward the development of the 2021 editions of these American National Standard designated model codes.
The code proposal form, as well as proposal instructions and background on IAPMO’s ANSI-accredited consensus process, can be found here. All proposals recommending new text, revised text, or the deletion of text must be written in legislative format and clearly state the reason behind the recommendation. The deadline is March 4, 2019.
ASPE Convention Experienced Growth
The 2018 ASPE Convention & Expo experienced a 9.4% jump in registration over the 2016 event. The six-day 2018 ASPE event featured pre-show workshops and activities, a CEU-centric technical conference along with an innovation showcase and a show floor packed with new companies and products exclusive to the plumbing design and engineering community.
