The following is a press release the Water Quality Association (WQA) released on Wednesday, May 18, 2020, regarding the WQA Convention & Exposition and concerns surrounding the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19):

Following cancellation of its April 1-3 Convention & Exposition in Orlando, Fla., the Water Quality Association is planning a slate of virtual convention events in April. The online sessions include the WQA annual meeting, industry updates, award presentations and dozens of hours of education sessions allowing attendees to earn Continuing Professional Development credit toward WQA recertification.

After public health and safety issues surrounding the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) forced cancellation of the convention, WQA staff began preparing the online events to allow registrants and others to benefit from the technical- and business-focused education program.

“We were greatly disappointed that we are unable to host the live event in Orlando, but that doesn’t mean attendees have to miss out on all the industry information and education opportunities at our annual convention,” said WQA Executive Director Pauli Undesser. “Actually, the virtual platform makes these opportunities available to people who would have been unable to attend the convention in person and allows people flexibility to attend more sessions than they could have live, when sessions ran concurrently.”

Everyone who had already registered for the full convention is automatically registered for the virtual education events, which are expected to take place the week of April 20, and plans are under way to allow others to register for this event as well. In addition, an online version of WQA’s annual membership meeting, tentatively set for April 2, will feature the election of new directors, updates from WQA leaders and virtual presentation of WQA’s annual Leadership Awards.

WQA has posted a Frequently Asked Questions page on its Convention website that contains information about the virtual event and answers to questions surrounding the cancelled convention. This information will be updated frequently in coming weeks.  A schedule of the online events will be posted as soon as the information is available.
