Reducing Water Waste

Jan. 15, 2015

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 10% of homes have leaks that waste 90 gal of water or more per week. In a time when drought and water scarcity are all over the headlines, that adds up to a serious amount of water wasted every year.

EPA’s WaterSense program aims to tackle this problem with its annual Fix a Leak Week, scheduled for March 16 to 22 this year. Now in its seventh year, the week will feature community races, leak-fixing workshops and other educational events to help homeowners learn how to mitigate water waste in their homes.

From ensuring that your home is free of leaks to turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth, there are many ways to waste less water every day. What advice do you have for homeowners on conserving water? Tell us in the comments, or send us an e-mail at [email protected]
