District to have strictest lead policies of any California school district
According to NBC San Diego, the San Diego Unified School District announced new water-testing policies under a three-year program with Calpirg, a statewide environmental advocacy organization.
Water testing at 207 schools in the district showed 19% of schools have some level of lead in the water. The district approved a plan to lower the acceptable level of lead in its drinking water. Future testing will include schools with early childhood education facilities and central offices, which were excluded from testing earlier in the year.
