The Pacific Water Quality Assn. (PWQA) opened registration for the 2019 PWQA Legislative Days. The annual event will be held May 21 to 22. PWQA Legislative Days provides an opportunity to meet legislators alongside PWQA members and lobbyists. PWQA introduces themselves as experts in the water improvement industry and leaves each representative with PWQA literature. If or when anything affecting the industry comes across their desk, they can call PWQA for explanation of the effects their decisions will have on the water improvement industry.

Florida WQA 2019 Annual Convention

The Florida Water Quality Assn. 2019 Annual Convention will be held from June 5 to 7 at the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanfront Resort. Trade show exhibit hours are Thursday, June 6, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, June 7, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Some topics included in educational sessions include:

  • Iron and pH: An Introduction to Lead and Water Treatment

  • Intermediate Iron Removal Treatment and Chemistry

  • Tear Down and Application of Pentair valve 2850 Utilizing the NTX2 Controller

  • Understanding Lead and What to Do About It

Kurita Water Ind. Ltd. Expands

Avista Technologies Inc., together with its affiliate, Avista Technologies (UK) Ltd., has announced that it is being acquired by Kurita Water Ind. Ltd. Avista is a formulator and global supplier of reverse osmosis specialty chemicals and provides technical support for membrane‐based water treatment systems.

Kurita has been expanding its activities by establishing strategic platforms in four key regions of the world—Japan, Asia, Europe and the Americas. The acquisition of Avista, with its chemistries, technical capabilities and customer base, is another step in that initiative.


Blue CEO Wins Accolade

Anders Jacobson, co-founder and CEO of Blue investment company, was named Sweden’s top Super Talent of 2019 by the leading Swedish business and finance weekly Veckans Affärer, which ranked him number one out of a total list of 101 finalists.

Jacobson won the accolade for his success in building the investment company from scratch in just two years into a planetary force for good with wholly-owned subsidiaries such as water tech and solutions leader Bluewater and a growing international portfolio of companies within water, food and health, renewable energy and sustainable material innovation.

Plumbing Manufacturers Intl. Opens Registration for New Course

Plumbing Manufacturers Intl. (PMI) opened registration for a new online course featuring information on Legionella and water supply systems, backflow issues and several other important plumbing subjects.

“Part 2: Standards and Topics in Plumbing,” open to both PMI members and non-members, is a follow-up to “Part 1: A Primer on Standards, Regulations, Codes and Conformity Assessment.” Part 2 is designed for plumbing manufacturing professionals with technical experience who would like a deeper dive into standards and other important topics.
