RO Systems Offer Flexibility for Industrial Applications

July 24, 2018

Industrial reverse osmosis (RO) systems range in capacity from 25 to 350 gal per minute and are featured as three separate series to suit water treatment applications, including brackish water and seawater. The systems are designed as efficient and cost-effective solutions to the growing demand for water purification in light industrial and municipal feedwater applications.

They utilize ultra-low-energy membranes with a 10% greater membrane surface area than traditional 8-in. RO elements. This allows the systems to produce a greater amount of pure water with less energy consumption. Each model is designed with a UL 508A-certified computer controller and an instrumentation package that provides the operator with straightforward, dependable system monitoring and controls.

The systems are engineered for brackish water with total dissolved solids (TDS) from 5,000 to 10,000 ppm. Featuring low-energy or high-rejection membranes, they reduce TDS in municipal, well and surface water sources while producing high volumes of permeate water. Low-energy membranes work in cold feedwater temperature applications and high-efficiency operations.

Stainless steel high-pressure piping and upgraded components are utilized for handling higher TDS levels at greater pressure, which helps with corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance.

Seawater RO systems are engineered for applications with TDS of 10,000 ppm or more. These systems feature high-pressure pumps and fiberglass membrane housings with duplex stainless steel ports that provide system durability. The duplex stainless plunger-type pump is resistant to corrosion and does not require lubrication, which increases the operational life of the system and membranes. The larger models are designed with the pump vertically mounted on a separate side-by-side skid for flexibility, efficient use of space and ease of maintenance.

To optimize the use of the systems and improve their productivity, recommendations are available for pretreatment and post-treatment, including media filtration, antiscalant and anti-foulant injection, ultraviolet disinfection, and clean-in-place systems.
