International Speakers Announced for Legionella Conference 2019
An international lineup of public health and sustainability experts from four continents will discuss hospital water systems, cooling towers, water quality monitoring and other topics at the Legionella Conference 2019 Sept. 11 to 13 in Los Angeles.
NSF Intl. and the National Environmental Health Assn. will host Legionella Conference 2019: Building Water Systems − The Sustainability & Public Health Nexus to explore the relationship between water conservation and microbial contamination prevention in building water systems.
American Water Employees Raise Money for Water For People
American Water and its employees raised more than $272,000 to support Water For People, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to improved water and sanitation systems and services in developing countries.
“We are providing a significant contribution to help Water For People in its mission to provide safe drinking water, clean sanitation, and education to people in developing countries where thousands of children die every day from waterborne illnesses,” said Linda Sullivan, senior vice president & chief financial officer for American Water and executive sponsor of the company’s Water For People employee giving campaign. “The amazing support from our employees demonstrates how much we care about others throughout the world and our commitment to providing access to safe, clean water.”

Plumbing Manufacturers Intl. Testifies on Adverse Impacts Expected from Section 301 Tariffs
CEO/Executive Director Kerry Stackpole testified June 17 before the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative on the unfavorable effects that Section 301 Tariffs of up to 25% on $300 billion worth of Chinese goods are expected to have on U.S. plumbing manufacturers, the economy, and consumers.
Dozens of plumbing-related products and components are included on List 4–the most recent list, which includes toilets, sinks, shower heads, faucet handles and more. The $300 billion list also includes vegetables, meat and cheese products, home appliances, bicycles, software, clothing and tech items.
WaterTAP to Cease Operations
The Water Technology Acceleration Project (WaterTAP) will cease operations June 30, 2019. WaterTAP’s funding from Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade was terminated in March as a result of the provincial government’s cost savings efforts.
WaterTAP was created by the Ontario Water Opportunities Act to promote and foster the growth of Ontario’s innovative water technology companies. Since 2012, WaterTAP has provided commercialization and business support to more than 300 companies helping create and retain more than 1,600 high value jobs. The businesses WaterTAP supported have achieved compound average growth rates of 25%, three times the Canadian sector average of about 8%.
WQA Social Media Toolkit
The WQA Marketing and Communications Department presented the Social Media Toolkit for the third quarter of 2019. This toolkit provides quick-and-easy social media tips that members can use in promoting their own business.
This quarter's kit contains graphics to help with posts for Canada Day, U.S. Independence Day, National Coffee Day and other events. WQA also offer tips on promoting professional certification, Gold Seal product certification, and for using the WQA 2019 Consumer Public Opinion Study.
