WQA Aquatech USA 2006 definitely lived up to its title, “The Water Opportunity Show.”

The show brought together many old and new faces. Water Quality Products found that both technical sessions and the exhibit hall were well attended.

Only a day into the show more than 4,500 people had registered for the March 28 to April 1 conference in Rosemont, Ill. Final attendance reached a record-high 4,825, according to the WQA.

Nearly a quarter of attendees registered on site, suggesting drive-in attendance played a part in the high attendance. A number of Midwestern companies told WQA that they were sending entire staffs in for all or at least part of the event.

Overall, Water Quality Products thinks this year’s show was very successful, and it has gained good momentum, promising an even better show next year in Orlando. Be sure to read our industry interview with Peter Censky, executive director of WQA on page 42 for additional insights on the show.

WQA Elects New President

Neil J. Desmond, CWS-IV, of Pentair Water Filtration - Pentek in Sheboygan, Wis., has been elected president of the WQA. He was elected to the one-year term March 28, during the association’s business meeting at WQA Aquatech USA.

Pentair has been a member of the WQA since 1979. Desmond was WQA vice president from 2005 to 2006. He is a member and past chairman of the Government Relations Committee and is also a member of the Manufacturer/Supplier Section.

WQA Honors Industry Leader

Several water quality industry leaders were honored during the Opening General Session of WQA Aquatech USA.

James W. Baker, CWS-VI, president and chief executive officer of AmeriWater, Inc. in Dayton, Ohio, received WQA’s highest honor, the Hall of Fame Award.

The Hall of Fame Award recognizes lifelong dedication and service to the water quality improvement industry and extensive participation and support for the betterment of the association.

Attendees Mingle with WQP Staff

Water Quality Products staff was excited to meet with various industry professionals at our Meet the Editors Night at the WQA Aquatech USA show. It was an excellent opportunity to meet one-on-one in an informal setting with old friends and make new connections. We would like to thank everyone who joined us for good refreshments and conversation. Hope to see you all next year in Orlando!
