Black & Veatch has announced the promotion of two key leaders to help manage the future of its growing B&V Water business. Effective immediately, Jim Hipps will assume full-time responsibility for B&V Water’s growth initiative as chief development officer. In a related move, Hipps will turn over leadership of the company’s Asia Pacific water operations to Ralph Eberts, who has been named managing director for the region.
“In his new role, Eberts will lead this growing regional business, a business that excels in marshalling global and local expertise to meet clients’ needs,” said Dan McCarthy, president and CEO of B&V Water.
“These appointments are evidence that we are proactively managing our future by putting the right people into the right positions in the right places to ensure we meet our growth objectives,” McCarthy said.
As managing director of Asia Pacific, Eberts will be based in Singapore. “Our global water team has significant resources in the Asia Pacific region, and we see a resurgence in world-class water programs that will help us not only grow our presence there but also facilitate the sharing of that expertise around the world,” McCarthy explained.
Eberts has 28 years of experience with Black & Veatch and has specialized in project management, civil environmental engineering, architectural and structural engineering and industrial facility design. Most recently he served as the deputy director of client services for the western region of the U.S. He received his M.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri and a master of real estate development degree from the University of Southern California.
Hipps has been with Black & Veatch since 1982. In 1995 he moved to London to oversee mergers and acquisitions, and then returned in 1998 to work as an assistant manager of the infrastructure business, responsible for operations in Europe, Africa and Asia. Since 2000 Hipps has been the head of B&V Water Asia.
“Jim has helped with the identification of our strategies for the region and the integration of all our operations across Asia, thus providing a solid foundation for the rapid growth we expect in the region,” McCarthy said. “Ralph’s extensive client-relationship experience will help us establish a market-leadership position throughout Asia and Australia and facilitate the application of our global water model.”
