The Musk Foundation donated $480,350 to fund new ultraviolet (UV) water filtration systems for drinking water fountains in Flint Community Schools. The foundation, founded in 2002 by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal Musk, vowed this past July to provide aid to residents of Flint, Mich., tainted by the lead drinking water crisis.

According to the city of Flint, the funding will enable replacement of all drinking water fountains at Flint Community Schools, as reported by CNN. The new fountains and filtration systems will be installing in all 12 Flint schools and the district’s administration building by the end of January 2019. The school district serves more than 4,500 students ages K-12, as reported by USA Today.

“The UV water purification method within the water filtration systems will disinfect al lead and bacteria coming from the water pipes to allow students to drinking from and fill up water bottles from school water fountains,” the city of Flint said in a press release dated Oct. 5.
