Owner/operator of Schaefer Water Centers, Schaefer passed May 9, 2017
Orville L. Schaefer, 86, of Perryville, Mo., died May 9, 2017, at his residence in Perryville. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Uniontown, Mo., son of Herman Benjamin and T. Onita (Popp) Schaefer. He and Laverne Steffens were married Aug. 20, 1955. She survives in Perryville.
Schaefer was owner/operator of Schaefer Water Centers. He was awarded the Water Quality Assn. (WQA) Award of Merit in 1986, the Key Award in 2001 and the Ray Cross Award in 2010. He also was the author of the Making Water Safe manual and was a strong advocate of WQA’s Professional Certification Program. WQA extends condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Schaeffer.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and he graduated from PHS class of 1949 and from University of Missouri – Rolla in 1958. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Other survivors include four sons and one daughter, Stephen (Nancy) Schaefer of Olga, Wash.; Michael (Andrea) Schaefer of French Village, Mo.; Thomas (JoAnn) Schaefer of Wentzville, Carol (Lynn) Winter of Uniontown; Robert Schaefer of Montello, Wis.; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Dawn; one sister, Irene Hagerty; and one great-grandson, David Schaefer.
Memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Family and Childrens’ Services, Saxony Lutheran High School or Serenity Hospice. Young & Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Perryville provided the arrangements.
