Recently, I noticed an interesting billboard along the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago. The Stella Artois ad, featuring the company's signature chalice, was promoting the Buy a Lady a Drink website.
Intrigued, I visited www.buyaladyadrink.com and discovered that the Buy a Lady a Drink campaign has nothing to do with beer and everything to do with water: For every special edition chalice purchased, Stella Artois helps provide five years of clean drinking water for a one person. Why the focus on women? According to the website, of the 663 million people worldwide without access to water, women are disproportionately affected.
The campaign, now in its second year (in 2015, it helped 290,000 people gain access to clean water for five years), is done in partnership with nonprofit organization Water.org. For 2016, Stella Artois has release three limited edition chalices for purchase, each one enhanced by imagery from a country where access to clean water can be a challenge: Peru, Haiti and Kenya.
With its intriguing name and prominent ad campaign, the Buy a Lady a Drink program is certain to open more Americans' eyes to the challenges people face worldwide in accessing clean water.
